Erase and Install
Archive and Install
or straight upgrade...

Those are the choices as I see them, and I've heard good reasons and bad to do all..

I'm leaning towards the Archive and Install, as I don't want to go and re-install all of my apps, and various software that I've downloaded off the net.

But then who knows if some of that stuff will conflict with 10.4, like QuickSilver, or some of the various menu bar apps, etc..

Your thoughts..

Upgrade because my hd is full of junk and I don't have enough space to back it all up, or the time to really start fresh and put everything back again.

archive and install.

makes the most sense, as you don't lose your apps or prefs. I usually clear out nonessential prefs for any newly installed apple apps but for the most part do a straight archive & install.

Every time I upgrade the OS, something bad happens. I always end up backing up and reinstalling anyway, so I will be Erasing and Installing then transferring files back over.

I just updated my 10.3.9 developer to 8a425 without any problems whatsoever. I like to see what breaks with an update during the betas.

I have always with a final GM, just archive and install and have never erased and installed fresh, except on another backup partition.

After an A&I there have been situations where something in the user account had caused problems. Instead of just erasing, I tend to want to know why it failed, so I troubleshoot that user account having a problem.

I'm erase and install only because I'm also getting on of those drives with 16mb cache on them to go with Tiger.

How does tiger use those more than .3? I have 8mb cache, will I see improvement under .4?
