Protect Only One Folder

Is there any way to password protect only one folder so that even when you're logged in, it makes you give your password everytime you open a folder? Or can you do this with only one file?

The standard advice is to create an encrypted disk image using Disk Utility to store the files you want protected, but there certainly are other third party options available.
