I think Apple should call it Liger, half lion-half tiger, bred for its skills and magic!!!

Well since the Tiger is the biggest cat, they'll have to start either with a new animal, or go back to the other end of the cat scale, "Calico" ?

Ever since the first release of OSX (codenamed "Cheetah"), people have predicted that the following release would be called Lion. So far, though, no releases have had that name.

In all seriousness, we have these bad boys left, I think:
Ocelot, Leopard, Bobcat, Lynx (not likely with the browser out there), Caracal, Serval, Margay, Oncilla...

Bengal, although it is still a tiger, is still a cool name. Maybe for 10.4.5?

We've had puma, but they could cheat and go with cougar and mountain lion.
I just can't see them going with serval. They're more likely to move on to bears. Or sharks. Probably sharks, I mean bears are cool but you'd have to use the word 'bear' every time.

Wonder if X.9 will be Lion.
I think the last one named X.something will be Lion.
We still have Leopard, Cougar, and Lynx... those bring us up to X.7,
That said are we sure the naming convention will go as far as X.9?
Anyway, I still think the last one named after a cat will be Lion... though that could be X.5, partly because I could see Apple leaving that release for around two years or so, and focusing on iLife and iWork for big feature upgrades.

Hmm, doesn't that kinda depend on how pedantic you're being? Granted, 10.0 was called Cheetah, however, the public beta was called Kodiak or something like that IIRC.

While I found that movie funny, I'm sick and tired of the kids quoting the movie to no end. Seems like everyone thinks they have a "killer" Napoleon impression ... kind of like Austin Powers when it first came out.
Back on topic, I'm not sure what they'll call the next Mac OS. I wonder how many more we'll see of the "os x" series before we move to 11.

I'm a little saddened I wasn't able to get to Lynx first, I've had that one brewing for a while. Oh well...
So... Bobcat? Or Golden Cat... Sweet.
And for those worried about Lynx because of the browser, how would you explain Puma getting through? I mean Puma is the best company in the world, other than Apple of course.
EDIT: Margay...

I've listed all of those...and I would explain Lynx being potentially avoided because Puma was not the advertised OS (but merely a codename). "Jaguar" was the first codename that made it to a mass audience.

I'm kinda in favor of Ocelot, myself. Of course, that could be because I was influenced by a certain other Ocelot, but then again, ocelots ARE cool animals.

All the same cat, the name depends on where you are from. Some places in the south call them Panthers. Out here they actually eat people, mostly joggers and lone hikers.
Anyway, they already had Puma.

In memory of Bloom County , and a cat I had for nearly 20 years, how about "10.5--Bill the Cat"?

I prefer him in the original MGS (PSX, not the GameCube remake that eviscerates his best line in the whole series). But yes, an Ocelot release would be beyond awesome.
