I have a very nice PowerBook G4 1GHz 12". I have a good amount or RAM (768MB) and a pretty good video card (GeForce FX Go5200 DDR 32MB). Anyways... it seems that lately scrolling in Safari and other places has been well... sluggish. Sometimes I'll leave Safari running and I'll load a webpage that usually scrolls pretty smoothly... and it will be jerky and sluggish feeling.

What could be the cause of this... and this makes my PowerBook G4 seem slow... Who would want to use a Mac if something as simple as dragging a scroll bar was painful to watch the web page go jerking by. Does anyone else have a similar setup with a similar problem? Or am I the only one with the sluggish scroll blues.

Please comment back... I'm dying here!

Is it "slow scrolling on a PowerBook G4" or "slow scrolling in Safari after I leave it running for a long time"? Many people report that Safari slows down if they leave it open for too long.

Well... it happens more than just Safari. iPhoto can become really sluggish... especially just scrolling a photo or even the list of photos. I know GarageBand is sluggish as is.. but, that scrolling is really really really slow on my system. Even in the Finder... if I have a long list of something... I can't scroll down the whole list cleanly (and this is in list view with icon previews turned off). It becomes very frusterating with having this nice PowerBook with Panther... and have slow down like this... I even noticed that minimizing windows can be pretty choppy at times... I treat this computer like Gold too... and I keep it very well organized and I DON'T have ANY 3rd party Apps running in the background (IE: Konfabulator, ShapeShifter and other background processes). Should I wipe my drive and re-install OS X?

If you want to check CPU usage, you should use top -u. Otherwise, a CPU-hog might be pushed off the list just because it's been open for a long time.
