Hi. I am a recent switcher, and I like a lot of things about the interface, but there is one thing I have ot figured out how to do.

Lets say I want to launch a program called foo. I use the mouse to click on the HD icon on the desktop and then I click on the applications icon. Now, I am sitting in the application folder, and I type an "f" and "foo" is hi-lighted. Is there some way to launch the program without going back to the mouse? If I hit the return key, it allows me to rename the file. If I hit the space bar, it goes to the top of the list. A Tab takes me to the next file, Is is actually possible to launch a file without useing the mouse?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Michael

It's command down-arrow.

Amorya
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Thanks. I am not sure why I never thought of trying that. It is so intuitive.

What is the point of making Enter, Cmd-Enter, Option-Enter,Shift-Enter and Ctrl-Enter all do the same thing? I actually don't rename files that often.

you should just get quicksilver. it's free and lets you open whatever you want (including files) just by typing what your looking for.

I tried quicksilver, but I ended up buying Launchbar instead. It's method for figuring out which app I wanted from a keystroke or two was much more effective for me. Too often, the app I wanted wasn't even in the Quicksilver list.
