Hello, I'm trying to use the restore CD's from a newer emac and trying to install OSX on a 333mhz G3 imac with OS9.2 .... When I put the restore cd in, the G3 says "disk is unreadable by this computer, do you want to intialize?" Then is says "all information on this disk will be erased." is it talking about the hard drive or the restore CD? Please help. This should be simple enough.

There should be some indication of which disk it's talking about (e.g. an icon). At any rate, from what you've said, it is most likely referring to the CD (never mind the fact you can't write to a CD). If you're already booted off the HD, it would not be referring to the HD. In any event, however, you should just hit cancel.

Also, are you sure this is a CD and not a DVD? Some of the newer Mac's ship with the OS on DVD.

Even if it didn't think the disk was unreadable, it still might not work for you as many of the CD's/DVD's are not interchangeable between machines.

I'm willing to bet a lot of money that he's trying to put a restore DVD into his tray-loading iMac.

The eMac software is not on a CD.

It's on DVD, which your iMac's internal drive cannot read (hey, it's six years old; it's allowed its failings in a modern world...)

Tiger (10.4) is just around the corner and I'm sure some one will be selling their older Mac OS X 10.3 CDs
