Tiger world premiere is suppose to be from 6pm to midnight. Does this mean Tiger won't be on the shelves before 6pm? Or is the hands on instruction starting at 6pm, but they will be selling it all day long?

Here in Japan, Tiger goes on sale at 6:00 p.m. local time on the 29th. (That'd be 5:00 a.m the 29th EDT, and 2:00 a.m. PDT)

However, pre-orders are scheduled for delivery "on the 29th".
Bet my order arrives by that morning local time, or about a day ahead of North America.

I have preordered it because I wanted to get it a few hours before 6PM. I really do not believe that they will tell the Fedex guy not to deliver it before 6... My hope now is that I will not miss it because I will need to wait until Monday...

That would suck

If you go to a bigger corporate owned store, they stick to Apples rules to the letter.

If you want to get it early, try checking with a local independent reseller. I got the 10.1 upgrade and my 15 gig iPod a couple of days early by going that path. They're willing to bend the rules a bit and start selling when they get stock.

With previous releases we've always got it on the same day as the official release, so technically, yes I suppose we get it first . I'm not sure about 6pm as the release time though - I guess that means the retailers will be having a late night for the purposes of Tiger as they'd otherwise be closed by then ... plus I'd rather be able to get it on the way to work on the Friday .

Here in Oregon, we won't get it until 6:00:01

And now they wonder why Apple doesn't send them stock anymore... hmmmmmmmmmm.

It's rather standard that all the Apple stores close for an hour and then reopen at 6pm.

I'm guessing most stores won't even care if they sell it before 6...

P.S. if you can't wait a few hours for an OS upgrade... I think you have bigger issues to deal with

Apple stores like to have events like that. They close the doors at 5pm, put out Tiger, get the store clean, and re-open at 6.

Last year I remember I got Panther a day before it was out in stores. I think it was supposed to come out around the same time (6ish) on a Friday, and I got it the Thursday before via FedEx.

It's been a while, so I might have the dates and times messed up, but I did get it a day early.

I bought my copy of Panther about 7 hours early by going to a little Mom and Pop computer store on launch day. They didn't seem to have any qualms about selling it to me a few hours before Apple's evening launch, and I was happy to avoid the crowds at my official Apple store.

I'll also be going to an independent Mac reseller, rather than one of the two Apple stores... I'm not going to stand in a dang line to spend money on a software upgrade.
