Does anyone know how to get Safari to start up in Max Screen mode? Saft used to do this for me for Safari 1.2, but now I can only manage to start Safari in full width mode -- there's always an inch strip at the bottom of the screen that I have to manually Ctrl-Shift-M to get Safari to open Max Screen.

I know that Saft allows you to "Zoom New Windows to Max Screen", but I don't have this checked as it tends to to mess up intentional pop-up windows (video settings, bank login, etc.). Is there a blank HTML page with Javascript that I could put on my system and point Safari to as a home page?

Just to clarify: I want Safari to start up in Max Screen (not Full Screen a la Saft). Saft used to do this for me, but the new version doesn't do this anymore. Anyone have a fix?

A minor quibble for sure (again, you just have to press Ctrl-Shift-M), but a quibble nonetheless.

Thanks for any information.

Don't have the link off-hand but if you google for Mac, Safari, bookmarklets, you should find a nice link that will give you a number of different screen configurations. Then you just have to drag them over to your menu bar. Free and easy.
I have 3. L R and 100%. the 100% does what it says, fills my entire screen on my PB17 (I keep my dock hidden). The L and R go full length of the screen but not 100%. That way if I'm doing something else, I can keep an eye on the side of the screen. Also makes viewing in Safari nice and not too long.

I am trying to understand what you mean. If I drag the corner of my Safari screen so that it fills out my entire screen, the next time I open Safari it remembers that window size.

@ Randman

I'm actually using a bookmarklet that uses Javascript to achieve Max Screen. My problem is that Safari does not remember its window position when I close it. Even when I Ctrl-Shift-M (which zooms the window to cover the entire screen) and quit, Safari starts with about an inch gap at the bottom of my screen.

Is there anyway to incorporate the Max Screen bookmarklet into my home page? I can't seem to make this work. All I'm trying to do is get Safari to start Max Screen every time.

@ kcmac

Safari doesn't remember my last window position. I've tried everything I can think of -- repairing permissions, re-prebinding, etc., but nothing seems to help.

@ hldan

I'm running the latest version of Saft. Hasn't helped the problem.

It's really not that big of deal, more of just a frustration. I'd love to get Safari to start Max Screen, but it's only a keystroke to zoom the screen to maximum if it doesn't. I'm just puzzled why Safari 1.2 always opened Max Screen, but I can't get 1.3 to do the same thing.

Thanks for your comments.

I wanted to post a follow-up.

The newest version of Saft (7.7.2) released today fixes the problem I was having. Thought I'd let everyone know who may have a similar problem. Safari finally launches in Max Screen every time now.

Thanks again for all who responded.

I tried this and it does not work. Is that the correct keyboard sequence?

This would be great.

That's a major PITA. I really like the 10.3.9 update and Safari 1.3, but the window settings getting lost is a real bummer.

That is the correct keyboard shortcut for Max Screen. Actually, that keyboard shortcut may be Saft specific. Are you running Saft? If not, you may want to give it a shot -- it really enhances the "Safari experience".

If you don't run Saft, create a bookmark with the following for the URL:

javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.a vailWidth,screen.availHeight);

Save this to your Bookmark Bar. Now all you have to do to get Max Screen is to click on this link.

I hope this helps.

You beat me to it bizco. I was going to say set the javascript as your homepage address in the Safari prefs.
