I'm really excited about getting Tiger, but in order to make sure I am able to work on things that are OS 10.3 specific, I am curious as to how I make my computer able to boot to either one, at my discresion. Heres a description of the setup I would like to have.

I have a powerbook that I want to be able to constantly run Tiger. The only time I really want to be able to run Panther is when I am working in ProTools. Here's my idea. Everytime I work in ProTools, I use my external firewire drive. Is it possible to move my current Panther setup on to my external disk, and only boot to this if I want to run ProTools, and install Tiger on my powerbooks internal drive to run all the rest of the time?

I know this is probably really a dumb question, but I have no clue on how to do it with my current lack of knowledge.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
maybe you've been brainwashed too.

yep, you can image your current Panther into the firewire drive:

1. connect the external HD
2. boot from the OS CD/DVD,
3. with disk util, go to restore, and select the source as the installed Panther, the destination will be the external HD (note that you can choose to erase it or not), that's one reason why I use partitions.
4. after it has copied the system (restored), boot from that external HD

that's it...
