I'm trying to get SpamAssassin working on Mac OS X Server (10.3.9). I found the article on developer.apple.com and also another one referencing it. I've followed the steps and have one major and one minor problem.
The major one is that it seems procmail is never being called. I've edited and put both lines in main.cf and added the delivery lines in master.cf. I know that they get overwritten by the Admin tool but I've verified they are they when I try the mail. I have the /etc/procmailrc file and have a LOGFILE entry in it, but no logfile is ever written. I've looked in mail.log and system.log and the only errors I can find are ones that say "server imap[2974]: auxpropfunc error generic failure". According to an FAQ on AFP548.com this is a normal error and can be ignored. I have SpamAssassin set to always put headers (I think) but it seems like I don't get that far and there are no errors I can find anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look or what the problem might be?
The second problem is that there seem to errors building the razor tools (version 2.67). Anyone gotten that to work?
Thanks for any help in advance.

This doesn't answer your question, but Mac OS X Server 10.4 has SpamAssassin built in, and is enabled with a checkbox.

Yes, I am aware that 10.4 has it included.
I was able to figure out the problem. In the instructions they state to go down a few lines from an edit at line 438 and change #mail_transport=cyrus to mail_transport=procmail. I did that, but it turns out near the end of main.cf there was another mail_transport=cyrus that was overwriting my setting (looks like it's probably set by the Admin software since it's with a bunch of other settings). Changing this line now lets procmail fire off and start SpamAssassin as it should.

Wow, what a smart move on Apple's side.
