I'm running OS X 10.3.9 and I just noticed that iChat (v2.1) doesn't support animated gifs for buddy icons. Well... they do, but they don't animate (not even in the profile). I also noticed that linked words (underlined or colored words that launch your browser and take you to a url) don't work in chat and profiles for me either. Does anyone else have these problems? Can I do anything to fix them without having to give up on using iChat? I know these are sort of dumb and unimportant, but it would be nice if Apple fixed them!

animated gifs have never worked. it's annoying, but there's some third-party software to fix it. I don't remember the name -- it wasn't free, and wasn't worth paying for, so I didn't keep it. The icons in iChat are so small, it's not worth it anyway.

As for links, I'm not sure what you mean. When someone includes a url in a message, it becomes a link when you receive it, and clicking it will open the page in Safari. I've never heard of that not working. Where are there links in profiles?

Well, to specify the link bug, it's sort of like creating a link to a word on a website. You know, using "a href" and then a closing anchor tag. So in other words someone's profile would say something like... "Click here to visit my page!" and if you click nothing happens. Safari doesn't launch up or anything. Double-clicking doesn't do anything either. iChat acknowledges that it's a linked word, because the text is colored differently, but it doesn't actually do anything.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Whats even more annoying about the annimated icon issue, is.. If someone else in your buddy list is using them, they don't work, but it does start to make iChat chew on an awful lot of CPU power, which isn't fixed until you restart iChat. Turning icons off in the buddy list mostly addresses this.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
