.Mac, people still use that?
Seriously, Apple should get with the program and permit address book sharing via LDAP or to any WebDAV server. This features-in-core-apps-only-if-you-pay-$100-a-year thing is getting tiresome.

According to Apple's OS X page there is LDAP server synching.

Has anyone tried this through .mac? Do both the publisher and subscribers have to be full .mac members or just the publisher? Can the subscriber be an email only .mac member or a non-.mac person?

As far as I can tell it's read-only. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Just repeating this question.
Do both the publisher and subscribers have to be full .mac members or just the publisher? Can the subscriber be an email only .mac member or a non-.mac person

Okay. The answer is that both subscriber and publisher have to be .mac members, which is really stupid since that isn't the case for sharing calendars.
Anyway, I read somewhere that Tiger AB is now read/write to LDAP servers. Anyone have any more info on this or how to set it up?
thanks,
kman

I can't believe I am the only person that cares about this. I promise this is the last time I'll bump the thread.

Haven't got Tiger yet, but I'd also be keen to see decent sharing of Address Book data. It's crazy to have a computer shared by several members of the one family all in one house all entering many of the same address cards into their own database. I also like to have a printed address list by the phone, but trying to pull the information from everyone's address book into a single unit to print is a real headache. I currently use "Address-O-Sync" but it's got its own problems.
Ditto for sharing between desktop and laptop. Nightmare!
The same problem exists for iTunes, iPhoto, etc, etc, etc. I wish Apple would make all their apps with built in library sharing and synching. It's painful!
Now that the sync API is open, it'll be interesting to see what other developers come up with.
