Is it me or Spolight won't index /Library and /System?

I haven' got Tiger yet, but I would expect that you are right. Even in Panther, the Finder doesn't search /Library and /System when you search for files. Those areas belong to the system. Most users don't need results from there. But I would think there is a setting somewhere you can switch on if you want to.

Or open either folder in the Finder and search from inside the window.

when I search for "startup" in spotlight I get a folder result for /Library/StartupItems and /System/Library/StartupItems

but something like "SPDisplaysReporter.spreporter" doesn't give any results unless you do it from the finder while you are viewing /System then you have an option: Folder "System" and that will search the entire folder and sub folders as chris said.

But yeah what normal users needs to view /library or /system?

It'd be mecca useful for me... (searching framework headers, etc.)

I'm sure there's a hidden default for it..
