I bought Tiger (10.4) via Apple's online store on April 12, 2005.... I was suppost to receive Tiger by this Friday April 29, 2005 before 6pm.... When I checked my order status on Apple's website.... It sayes "preparing order"..... so I check my bank card online and was charged $137.98 on Monday, April 25, 2005
Well I called Apple's Customer Service yesterday Wed, April 27, 2005.... I ask the lady nicely when my order was going to be ship... I was very short and say that "no one is can have it early or before Friday"... She said my order is on the shipping dock.... and would ship Tiger Tuersday in a 2 day shipping
Anyways, I found out that I will not recieve Tiger until Monday......
Apple's Website advertised that it would ship TIger early Tuerday or early Friday so I can go to the Apple store Premier at 6:00pm on Friday evening!!!
Sorry for venting, I was looking forward to getting Tiger by Friday... I wanted to go to the premier at the Apple Store with Tiger on my Powerbook.. plus the lady at Apple Store was rude...

I'd send them a polite email explaining what happened and how you could have saved that money if you hadn't been lured into buying from Apple so you could receive it on the release day. Tell them how disappointed you are and how you won't be making such a mistake again. There's a chance they will refund part of your order, based on my past experience with them.

I wouldn't bother sending the email. If you don't recieve it on Friday I would actually give them a call again. Be polite but let them know that it was false advertisment. If you talk to someone who actually gives a sh*t, they might make things right for you.
You will probably get it by Friday so don't sweat it too much.

It's not necessarily false advertising. Minorly misleading sure... but false advertising is actually a crime, Apple legal would not let them do.

Sorry if you don't understand me...... english is not my first language..... I am buying Tiger from Amazon., not The Apple Store.....
I think Apple fans worship Apple.... Its funny that Apple's Fans overlook things the company does wrong....
Anyone think that Steve Jobs is a GOD? J/K!?!

I still don't understand this thread.
You pre-ordered Tiger and was told it'll be delivered on Friday, the 29th.
Then you say it won't be delivered until Monday. Where did you get that info from? Then you decide you want to order from amazon not the Apple Store so you try and cancel your ordered already shipped.
Then you complain about Apple's customer service and start ranting about Steve Jobs and Apple and Apple users.
WTF?!
If you're so wishy-washy, you should have just ordered it from amazon to begin with. You complain without actually knowing the delivery day (which seems to be by the 29th for the vast majority across the globe) then you get upset when you can't switch gears in mid-stream.
It's not Apple's CS that's screwy, it's your expectations.

Randman,
Apple's customer service told him that he wouldn't get it till Monday. He says that twice.

It looks like you should have waited. It is being reported that Apple is offering a $15 credit for some of the delayed orders.

Why doesn't he wait until the end of the day today to get mad at Apple... sometimes their system says he won't get it until Monday, but he could still get it today.
That's what happened with me with Panther. I pre-ordered it, and their system told me I would get it the following week after the launch date, and then it shipped and I got it on launch day by surprise. Checking immediately after receiving my package showed that my order "still had not shipped yet." It took another two days before the status was updated and I got my tracking number... AFTER I already received my order!

Well, what's up with a computer company whose tracking and processing system takes days to update? I was going to work at home this morning to sign for the package but because of the email from apple saying that it's not shipping until today, I didn't stay home. If it comes today and I'm not there, Fedex will take it back with them and I'll be seriously annoyed. My expectations of APple:
1. Ship when you say you're going to ship
2. Be honest about why you're delayed and take responsibility for your mess-up
3. Get a processing system that is updated immediately so that you don't confuse and annoy customers unnecessarily.
4. Be consistent with your $15 credit offers! I wasn;t offered that but some people were, apparently.
Is that really too much to expect?

Then what? Well, it's none of my business who Apple contracts with for shipping. If this were there first launch of a new OS, I'd give them a break. However, they built up the hype themselves, encouraging people to order and promised to deliver by the 29th. Surely they were not taken by surprise that people actually ordered? And surely they could have anticipated that the shipping companies might not be able to handle it all? And sure, if they did anticipate it (and I'm positive they did), they could have had some kind of contingency plan to let customers know that there might be a delay before today? I mean this is about principle and honesty, two things Apple seems to lack when handling these kinds of situations. In any case, just like I don’t hold IBM responsible when my Apple laptop’s IBM hard drive fails, I don’t hold Fedex responsible for Apple’s mess-up with my order. I’m an Apple customer, not a Fedex customer.

So I ordered my copy of Tiger on 4/12 at 9:42 AM and am being told by Apple and FedEx that it will be delivered on Monday, May 2. I live in NYC so it is not like I am in Idaho in the middle of nowhere. I can't believe that people who ordered after me got their copy before me. Is there any evidence that this is a regional problem. Maybe only people in NYC are experiencing delays due to problems in Middletown, PA? Who else is having this problem?

Typically they update properly, but in the case of Panther they had decided to do this at the last minute and give everyone a surprise, and may have had so many orders to process that they didn't have time to update the website.
Normally the system works the way it's supposed to, and as one would reasonably expect. I didn't want to give the impression that this is standard Apple operating procedure, because it's not.

I might have missed it, but the one thing that wasn't mentined is may be you were so far back in line the soonest it would get out the door was monday or tuesday. Either because of order processing or inventory issues.
Good luck with Amazon, I have not had any problems with them.
Other then saving the money, you seemed to have wanted it quickly (I don't blame you) why not go to a local compusa or an authorized apple dealer and pick it up.

UPDATE..... Thanks to everyone letting me vent my problem with the Apple Store...... I wanted to let everyone know I recieved Tiger Yesterday from Amazon....
I love Tiger and saved $35.00 via Amazon rebate... I am only shopping with Amazon for my all my Apple needs.... Better prices, Better Service, plus No sales Tax..... Shhh!! don't tell the State of Florida about the sales Tax thing...
My point to writing this is, Apple is in a great spot to get ahead now that Microsoft is so behind.... but if people at Apple are rude to their customers, this opportunity will fade.....

Should still write a letter to Apple explaining the deal. Lots of people have said they've gotten a free copy of iWork or iLife if the order was delayed.

Yes, but if he cancelled the order with Apple he may not be able to get that free copy of iWork or iLife...

He may not, but it's worth sending an email. Apple may still try to do something to smooth things over even if they lost the sale.

Hasn't anyone stopped to consider the fact that with an absolute ban on early shipment, Apple set themselves up for being really overwhelmed, particularly in the days just before the official release? The lady at Apple may not have had a lot of sleep recently, and has certainly been overworked and overstressed-mostly by customers wanting to know precisely what second their copy of Tiger will be delivered. Give them a little bit of a break! What major geopolitical repercussions will occur if you don't get your package until today? You miss out on a couple of days of figuring out what's what. So? It's not earthshattering in my book.
I agree with Randman on his last post: let Apple know that you're returning your order-when it finally arrives-because it was not delivered as Apple had advertised. You may be surprised how hard Apple tries to make things right.

And yes, it's only an operating system, but I want it goldarnit!

Hello all,
I wrote Apple an Email yesterday, not to get a feel copy of IWork or ILife.... I just wanted to tell him my problem with my order......
I did receive a form email saying they were sorry and hope they can help me in the future with my Apple needs...
Sometimes I think Apple is use to their loyal fans (Cult of the Mac groupies) don't get me wrong, I love OS X, IPOD and glad to be rid of Mircosoft's problem (windows OS) but I still like to be treated as a paying customer...

So by Thursday, still no Tiger. I contacted my employer's IT department and asked them to chase up the order as it was nearly a week late. A couple of hours later they sent me an e-mail saying that the reason Tiger hadn't been shipped to me yet was that Apple hadn't received the order (which I suspect is a sneaky way of saying the IT department had forgotten to send the order in the first place).
As I say above, I ordered Tiger on the day it was announced, and I'm not going to get it 'til the middle of next week (10th/11th May). Truly un-friggin-believable. Suffice to say, this morning I've used every swear word in my vocabulary and invented a few new ones especially for all those responsible for humping this thing up.

The more I think about it, the more I agree. I paid the IT department directly by credit card (on the 12th of April) and they've yet to take the money out of my account, from which I infer that they have yet to process my order. The words "piss-up" and "brewery" spring to mind.
