I pre-ordered a copy of Tiger after receiving an email from Apple all about it.

At the bottom of the email it stated - "Pre-order today for free delivery to you door on the day of launch: 29th April 2005."

As it is now the 28th April and it has not shipped, I suspect they will not be delivering on that promise.

I fact I have just had another look at the email they sent, which is of course in HTML format, i.e. the graphics get re-loaded when you view the email, and guess what they have changed it!!

The whole piece of text about delivery on the 29th has been removed.

It's a good job I grabbed the image !!! As I will be taking this to the advertising standards people, it is clearly a breach of the ASA code.

Can't say I'm surprised. This is exactly the kind of thing I've come to expect of Apple UK.

Edit: Ha ha, like Steve Jobs gives a crap about the European market!

I don't think Apple UK has anything to do with AppleStore orders.

Tiger has shipped for many Danes and you can buy it in stores tomorrow from 6pm.

Shouldn't you actually wait until the 29th to see if you've been jobbed?

And, another thing. I'd suggest (removed at the urging of Steve Jobs)

Why should I remove the Steve jobs comment? It is factual.

I emailed him today about this and 3 mins later I got a reply, that asked me to wait until the 29th to see if they let us down. So I did that.

You shouldn't remove the comment. Though you could have deleted your post, hence this thread. At least, I think the new forum software should.

And I'm equally glad that Steve agrees with me on waiting until Friday before pressing the panic alarm.

I'm not in the UK but I did just get a call from Apple and they'll be dropping Tiger off tomorrow morning before I go to work.

I'm more surprised at the way Apple 'changed' the email to remove the delivery promise rather than the failed delivery. It is not on or legal in the UK to send an email and then change it to undo a promise on which your order was made.

I will wait until tomorrow before I take this further, but as it has not shipped yet, I'm not convinced it will arrive on the 29th.

Setting and expectation and then not living up to it is the worst thing you can do.

They did the exact same thing with Panther in the UK, promised delivery on release date and then shipped all the copies by the cheapest Parcel Post possible, meaning they took 7-10 days to arrive, a full week or more after the release date.

This time when I saw the same issue going to happen I contacted Steve and a senior person at the UK Apple Store to point out the problem. The message I had back was "Apple intend to deliver on the 29th April".

I just suspect that with all the removal of the promise fro the web site and emails that they may have changed their mind. It is very suspicious when the US site still promised delivery on the 29th, but the UK store had it removed.

I would have deleted the thread, but it was not an option.

Ian, is that a joke?

Anyway, my order still says open. I'm going to leave all complaints until they actually fail to deliver (which they haven't yet and fingers crossed won't).
