Since most of us are getting Tiger now, thought we could start discussing any issues with 10.4.0.

For me, one of the smoothest installs I've ever done, even less of a headache than 10.3.9.

I did an archive & install on my mini but it went so well, I went ahead and did the same on my PowerBook.

(Note: I ordered Tiger the day it came and I did pay for the UTD for the mini but for a couple of days, I installed it on both Macs off the one disk).

No major issues right now. PhotoShop CS2 is giving me a prompt saying it's missing files but it's working. Menu Meters, Slim Battery Monitor, Konfabulator, CalendarClock (the freeare version) and F10 are all working fine.

Dashboard is great but I do see a use for Konfabulator, at least for now.

DeLocalizer works fine. Installed APE again and WindowShade X and FruitMenu are working fine. CandyBar update worked fine as well.

.Mac Sync also worked fine. Font Book gave warnings on a half dozen of about 180 extra fonts but no problems there.

Even Disk Utility seemed to repair permissions a helluva lot faster than on Panther.

What about text edit... is it still good?

MANY Windows applications retain the font information, and I HATE that. Many times, I take a word document, past it in to text edit and then paste it in to Quark so that it goes in clean. Did Apple "enhance" that?

If so, I'm going back to my Centra 610!

So far it's been ok, but I've been so busy I haven't had time to really do a FULL move - I've just been trying it out on a separate partition for now.

All I can say is that it's gone very well so far. I'll be installing my iLife, FCP, DVDSP, Office over the next few days.

One thing I also noticed was 10.4 install is MUCH faster than the Panther install. It's also VERY MUCH faster than a Windows XP install. I'm loving 10.4 So far I haven't encountered any bugs yet.

It's nice, but I think the apps in the coming months are going to be the real upgrade, when even more developers tap into the new stuff.

Many things in both the OS and Apple's apps still come across as clumsy, hastily designed or just badly organized. Hopefully the slower upgrade cycle let's Apple focus on polishing Tiger + apps up in coming 10.4.x updates.

Tiger is freakin' awesome. Installed this baby a couple of days ago; so far no noticeable bugs. I did the Update and everything is speeding along.

It will crash twice, then ask me to enter my account info, then work.
Until I restart and then two more crashes.

I did an update install, so I probably have to trash all the mail prefs, etc...

My experience has been good, with the exception of a KP early on. After that, no real problems. One cosmetic issue I've run across is the FUS icon in the menu bar - it shows up underneath the other menu bar icons. This is on my Powerbook though, and I'm the only one using it, so I just turned FUS off.

All in all - a good experience. Performance is great, and I'm really getting into building the smart folders.

Addendum: I'm getting the same alert upon launch of Photoshop CS2 as Randman is, but it seems to run fine regardless.

Anybody tried Vuescan yet? Panther broke it because of a conflict and I ended up having to dump files to kill Panther's scanner drivers (I use an Epson 2450). I hope I don't have to go through that again.

I hope Carbon Copy Cloner still works too.

Safari still doesn't work on my bank sites, nor does it work well on forums that allow you to add formatting tags (it adds tags, but all at the end of whatever you typed). Firefox works in both of these cases. Bummer. I really have been holding off on learning Firefox's interface, but after this Tiger release, I've lost patience, and starting to switch to FFox.

I gained some extra functionality as well,

the logitech mx-1000 wasn't recognized when plugged in while the computer was on, but now i can plug in when ever i want and it loads up just fine. such a relief not to have to restart every time i want to use the exra buttons on that mouse =)

Interesting, rpark. After reinstalling the latest Logitech driver (from last Aug, 2004), I was seeing buggy behaviror, so I finally downloaded USB Overdrive, a program I'd heard about for years. I can't believe the difference to my Logitech MX510, including a live mouse speed increaser. Just awesome. Very happy with the purchase.
