Aloha,

I posted this in the peripherals forum but after futher pondering I think it may more relate to software or the OS.

The numpad on my 2 year old Apple Pro Keyboard stopped working a couple of weeks ago. Thinking it was defective I bought a new Macally IceKey and installed their OSX drivers. Unfortunately the numpad doesn't work on it either. In both cases the =/-+*/= all work, just not the numbers themselves. It's as if the numlock is frozen on even though it's not.

I've tried everything, repaired permissions, repaired permissions on the start up disk, Disk Warrior, PRAM, tried the keyboards in both USB ports on my PowerMac and ran the hardware test dvd. Nothing has helped.

This leads me to believe that perhaps the issue had to do with a couple of games I installed around the time the problem began. Deleted them both along with their plist, didn't help.

What inside the OS controls the keyboard that would make it think the numlock is locked? Should I try to delete the keyboard plist? Does such a thing exist? Should I delete the System Preference plist? Or do plists have nothing to do with it? The only keyboard related plist I can find is for keycaps.

Given that the problem persist through 2 keyboards made by seperate companies, am I right to conclude the issue is not hardware related?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Go to System Preferences.

Click on Universal Access.

Select the "Mouse" tab.

Check to see if Mouse Keys is on. If it is, turn if off and see if your number pad starts working.

You da bomb! I can't thank you enough, that did the trick. A few weeks ago I had downloaded the Zinni Jeala pinball demo. It was so small on my screen that I delved into Universal Access so I could zoom in and make it bigger. Apparently setting up the zoom messed up the numpad.

Who would've thunk it. I've been toiling over this issue for weeks, posting all over the place, and getting no solutions. I can't thank you enough. Once again, Macnn comes through!
