With Safari RSS when I download a DMG that has an application in it, Safari brings up a warning box asking me if I really want to do this.

This is terribly annoying. Can I turn just the warning off without turning off the option to have Safari auto open items?

I hope someone finds a way to get rid of it. I usually close the downloads window when I download something. There is no reason for me to have to watch it's progress most of the time. Now it pops back up every time. I feel like I'm back on a Windows box again.

No, this cannot be disabled if you have Safari set to open "safe" files after downloading. This is for a very large variety of reasons, not the least of which was much bitching during some "safe" file exploit possibilities not long ago. (And jeez, can you not just disable opening of "safe" files? Then you never get prompted. That's kind of the whole idea.)

That said, you may edit the Safari executable:

At offset 0x4cab0, change 0x48088dbd to 0x38600001.

This changes the call from within Safari's "promptForCurrentFile" method to assume isRiskSafeOrUnknown is always safe. The specific change is to replace a subroutine branch with a "move 1 to register $r3".

This is not recommended and completely unsupported.

Hoo hoo. I predicted this backlash. Cue the "this is good for you and everyone on your network"-comments from the tinfoil-hat "security"-crowd.

Actually, you can turn it off. And if you searched, you could have found the answer. In preferences, under downloads, click off open "safe" items. You'll have to manually click to open a dmg but you shouldn't get the prompt.
