Hello all,
After reading a couple long discussions, it seems that Tiger's automatic update is not working 100% transferring all emails to the new Mail program. It either causes by changed mailbox format or other issues.

Please share with us how eventually you get all your old mails to be transferred to Tiger.

Thanks.

Aren't those answers found in the original long thread/discussion already?

If you've done a fresh "virgin" install of Tiger after backing up all your files on another volume, I'd recommend the following. I've done it on 2 computers and it works perfectly:

-----
BEFORE running the new Tiger Mail:

1. drag the "Mail" folder from your Library backup into: ~/Library/

2. Drag the "com.apple.mail.plist" prefs file from your Library/Preferences backup into: ~/Library/Preferences/

Now run Tiger Mail. It will detect the previous mail and import it. (It does it quite quickly - mine had over 20,000 msgs and took just a few mins. I do have a 10,000 rpm Raptor drive though .)

All your accounts will be intact, but you will need to re-enter your passwords as they are stored in the keychain not the prefs file (for security).
-----

For newbies: ~/ means start at the user folder, that is, /Users/yourname/

For advanced users:

I'd also recommend not searching Mail until Spotlight has had a chance to index it. (No big deal, just that you may get incomplete searches and conclude Spotlight is no good.) You can tell when this is happening by running the Terminal program 'top' and looking for the lines:

mdimport
mds

When they're showing CPU usage, Spotlight is indexing. Depending on the power of your system, this should take a few minutes each time something substantial (like a full mailbox) is added to the drive.

I did an archive and install this morning on my mini (and since that went so smoothly) then my PowerBook.
It imported mail just fine for me and the missus. And with .Mac sync, it backed up everything once again.
No problems, easiest install/upgrade I've ever dealt with. 10.3.9 caused more headaches with the Safari crashes.

Either that or if you have .Mac just simply let it backup the mail and preferences then after doing install restore from backup and open mail. It will import them just fine as well

I clicked the Import button when it presented itself, and all was well.

Forgot to ask those with success, how many mailbox you have? Does it matter? I have six accounts and I don't think it should present any problems, right?

Also, does hotmail plug-in still works in new Mail? Wonder anyone tries it.

Thanks again.
