Yeah, what's up with that? When I opened QT this morning (on Tiger), it said 7.0 but the normal player. When I tried to enter my Pro registration number, it said the key wasn't valid.

You need to buy a new one, as usual.

The MPEG-2 component is now built-in. Not that this wasn't mentioned before. Also, no GPU decoding as far as I can tell.

There's a link to HD sample clips that's not working yet. I assume that these will be H.264 clips?

Indeed. The only time they've ever allowed a QTPro key to go across versions was QT4, which accepted QT3 keys (QT3 was the first to use this ridiculous system). It must be one hell of a moneymaker, or they wouldn't nickel-and-dime us so badly with it.

MPEG 2 isn't built in, its still an add on component for $19.99

If you are using 10.4 you shouldn't need to download this unless this version is a different version number

For those that are stingy, there is a serial floating around, for evaluation purposes of course

The share feature is quite cool - but how likely is it that the recipient will have QT 7 too? (i.e. movies sent as h.264)

Hmm, I had done a check at the Apple Store and hadn't seen a new MPEG-2 component for QT 7.

Well then the good news is that you can use the old QT6 MPEG-2 component with QT7. Mine still works.

I don't really mind paying for Pro features like the editing stuff, but fullscreen mode? Seriously?

Exactly. Professional features are one thing, but unless I am mistaken QTPro is the only media player in existence which requires you to pay for fullscreen video. As marketshare statistics have showed, that feature is simply not worth money.

Silly question; however, if you were to upgrade to "QuickTime Pro" via the Apple Store on-line, do you get e-mailed a serial # immediately or do you have to wait for something in the mail?

Really? I bought mine this morning and my key was displayed on the online receipt. It was then emailed to me.

It does say it will be mailed to me in 3-5 days, but I had it in 3-5 seconds.

The code was on the "print this for your files" receipt web page that came right after purchasing, but the code was not mailed to me. So before you wait for the code have a closer look at your printout.

Did QuickTime 6 have controls for brightness and contrast? I seem to remember that, but I can't find such a feature in the QuickTime 7 Pro player.

Quicktime 7 is supposed to be a pretty big deal, so here's something to read while you're downloading. In fact, if you haven't read this entire review, I highly recommend it.

That's what I meant. Was that I got it via email in a confirmation letter.

So, please explain... I own Final Cut Pro, Motion and DVD Studio Pro - all of which require QT Pro and give you serial numbers. If I let Software Update install QT7 none of those serials will work. I have to pay again??? Could this be?

I can't seem to download Quicktime 7. I've gone to the Apple link but it just hangs. I've tried Software Updates (and even deleting the old softwareupdate.plist for both admin and user. And still QT doesn't show up for me. Can someone please give me a direct link to download QT 7, please.

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it now. It seemed that Apple required an email address and wouldn't let me download until I gave them one. Bone heads!

All of those apps might come with QuickTime Pro, but I doubt they require it. QuickTime Pro only unlocks features of the QuickTime Player and the QuickTime Plug-In, not QuickTime itself.

Yes it did. I haven't tried looking for it in QT 7, yet.
