I installed Tiger today and everything seems slower. Check this out.

First of all my computer is pretty good (PowerBook G4 Aluminum Nvidia GeForce Go 5200 32MB and 768MB of RAM) Now I'm gonna list the things that are slow for me.

Let me first start off by saying I did check my Energy Saver settings and I'm on the Highest power.
I've also restared a few times.

1. Srolling in the Finder is a bit laggy (I mean dragging scroll bar... not scroll wheel)
2. Dock Magnification seems laggy to me (Icons seem to be trying to catch up to my cursor)
3. Minimizing windows to the dock is a little laggy (worse when un-minimizing a window)
4. Exposé seems a bit in the choppy side (Never had a problem with it before)
5. Moving icons in the Finder and having them snap into place seems slower and choppy
6. Menus... selecing menu items is SLOW... the hilight doesn't seem to want to appear fast enough and if you move your cursor really fast... it skips hilighting items all together!

My Graphics card is compatible with Core Image and Quartz Extreme...

On a lighter note... Dashboard seems to work nice and smooth... no lagginess or slow framerates... even with the ripple effect...

Is anyone else experiencing things like this?

I sure hope this is only temporary!

If you just installed, Spotlight is archiving your harddrive and using about 70% of your CPU (at least it was on my 1.33 PowerBook), so it just feels sluggish cause its doing so much in the background.

It'll take 40 minutes or so and then you should be good.

click the spotlight icon in the upper right hand screen corner, and it will tell you how long it still needs for indexing.

until then, please don't panic.

You'll only upset the children.

Spotlight was done indexing when I posted this... it has nothing to do with spotlight... I waited patiently for it to finish before I came to any conclusions. Anyone else notice any slowdowns?

Did you Upgrade or Archive & Install. In the past upgrades have made my computer slower, and archive and install made things better. If you didn't archive and install, try that and see if it makes things Snappy™ again.

The first thing I did was Archive and install... but, I kept my user settings... should I have made a new user and stuff?

I had the same kind of issues on my iBook (indexing was completed). A restart fixed the issue. Not sure what happened. I still get 3-4 SystemUIServer lock up each day. This is really bad... unfortunately, to be expected from Apple who always release major OS updates with huge bugs.

I first did an archive and install and found it to be slower than Panther. Then I reformatted and everything is noticeably quicker. This is on a 1 GHz iMac G4. I probably would have seen the same increase in speed by creating a new account, but since I was going to have to redo most of the setup anyway, I went with the clean install. Couldn't be happier.
