Well, now that Tiger is out, I'm thinking about buying it. Question is - will I notice a speed improvement in the GUI even on a Radeon 9200? Panther is definitely fast enough, it's just that more speed doesn't hurt. Plus I want Spotlight and Automater. I've got the latest generation iBook G4 12":

1.2 ghz G4
1.25 gb PC2100
40gb hard drive
Combo drive
OS X 10.3.9

Also, does anyone have any experience running Audacity under Tiger? And what about M-Audio products such as Transit USB and Audiophile?

i dont find it any more faster really
but it is more efficient i think, like i dont get the beachball as much, it seems more responsive
i have yet to try out everything like automator, but i must say spotlite is the bees knees, it makes up for all my unorganized stuff i have in folders thatt i havent gotten to yet to sort

the other questions i have no experience with

oh and my ibook is the 1.2ghz 12inch with 740mb of ram

dashboard is quicker than i thought it would be since i dont have core graphics

I think it's a bit faster. I did an upgrade from Panther, dead slow on first boot, got the beachball and thought it had crashed, but it must have just been loading things as I could hear the hard drive spinning.
The only problems I have come across so far is that Isync doesn't work.
I might do a format and install later.

That's because not all of the "effects" are turned on for the iBook and mac mini. The graphics processor doesn't support "core" feaures - so you won't see little things like the "ripple effect" when you add something to the dashboard for example. Try it on a pm or pb vs a ibook/mini and you'll see a difference.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just stick with Panther on this iBook since it already serves its purpose well. I'm going to be handing it down to my mom for her music recording work in a few months when I get a new Mac for graduation. I'm actually thinking of getting a 20" iMac and another 12" iBook once they're updated, so hopefully the iBook will get a CoreImage compatible GPU so I can enjoy the eye candy. Hmm, or I could go for the DP 2.0 PowerMac +12" PB + 20" Alu display combo...

I would like the extra feature on my upcoming iBook, (And Apple did not update the graphics card today), is it possible to change the graphics card into somethin cooler? But also saving in , without bying a PB?

Or is this just a stupid guestion, then i will be silent...

Since this is more of a Tiger question than something specific to any particular iBook, I'm going to move this thread to the Mac OS X forums.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one
pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the line broadside,
thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!"

Tiger does seem snappier on my PB17 and my mini (a 1.42 which is basically a monitorless iBook)
