Just installed Tiger 10.4 last night. Retail price here in Switzerland :189 Swiss Francs for it (=159 US$, get this---!)

After clicking on "About this Mac" - I observed that there was a serial number displayed after clicking twice on the text "Version 10.4", starting with "V......." . What all about this? I didn't find any serial number on the package nor I had to enter one during installation.

Any guess?

I believe that is the serial number of your Mac, not the operating system. Anyone else want to chime in on this?

One would deduce that your Mac has at some darker stage in life had its motherboard replaced.

Those crafty Apple types are supposed to transfer the serial number. They never seem to! Curse them.
