For reasons too long to explain here, I created my user account with a French keyboard layout. Now, several months down the line, I use a normal US keyboard.
I have changed my settings in 'International' to the US keyboard layout.
However, for some unknown reason, my login screen still believes I am using a French keyboard layout and I need to enter my password as if I were using a French keyboard.
Does anyone here know why that is?
Thanks.

When you first install OS X it prompts you for your main language, and that is what your login screen gets.
Try enabling the root user, logging in as root, and changing the the International setting there.

I concur. That should do it.

Thanks for the try, guys.
It did not work, but I discovered the solution by pure chance:
In Tiger, in Login Options in the Account Preferences, there is now an option to 'Display Layout Source' in the Login Screen.
Once I did this, I was able to select the layout I wanted even on the Login screen.

That's nice that Tiger lets you change this without enabling root.
