Should I buy Tiger?

I know. There are probably already topics on this. Should I buy Tiger? Here's my situation. I have a 667 DVI Powerbook. I'd like to get a new Powerbook in the near future, which will of course come with Tiger. I'm really waiting for a newer, better screen (I know the current ones are still brighter than mine). My powerbook seems clunky from time to time. Tired of a churning, slow hard drive. I have 512MB of ram in it and really don't want to invest any more $$$ into it. The question still comes back to...should I buy Tiger? (on a side note...I could get Tiger for $79.99 after rebate at MircoCenter, but only today) I feel as if I'd be throwing my money out the window, when I'll likely have my computer for only short time...certainly less than a year. The catch is I plan to give this Powerbook to my mom when I finally get a new one. Of course she doesn't want me to waste my money...and of course she doesn't realize the machine would likely be better off down the road with Tiger, even just for support reasons. I really don't want to spend the money...but of course want Tiger. :-) What do you all think?

Just buy it. The additional features and slight but noticeable speedup in certain areas
might make the machine more pleasant to use when it goes to your mother.

I bought Tiger today and I still have not loaded it.

They gave me an in-store demo of all sorts of great features.

I think that is what it amounts to: Features.

I haven't loaded it and I was/am on the fence about it either way. On the one hand, I love having the latest OS on any system I'm using.

On the other hand, Panther is working plenty fine on my systems.

So, maybe I'll load it tomorrow and let you know what I REALLY think.

Wait until 10.4.1 comes out, there are some bugs that need to be ironed out. Of course if you're like me you'll go out and buy it anyway.

10.4.0 is a stable version. Go ahead and get it. You're getting a discount anyway and it does make operating snappier.

And despite what Cody says, it is more than features (though those are nice).

Here's what I have: A PowerBook G4/667 Gigabit Ethernet. I replaced the stock hard drive with a 60GB 5400RPM drive that also has 16MB of cache. I also only have 512MB RAM, but with Tiger, it's like this machine has new life in it. I would try replacing your hard drive with a newer, slightly faster one if possible. If I'm not mistaken, your machine is one generation newer than mine as well
