I'm Erasing and Installing Tiger (since 3 weeks ago my hard drive died and was replaced ny Applecare) and was told that for easier backup purposes and better performance, that one should have two partitions; one for the OS and Applications, the other partition for User folders and Documents. Anyone else doing this or have done it for Panther? If so, how large should I make my OS/Application partition to ensure a "roomy enough" swap disk? Will this screw up Spotlight indexing?

Who told you to partition?

Partitioning isn't needed for 90%+ of all OSX users. It's a mindset for so many people coming from a Windows environment. Do a search and you'll find plenty of threads on this.

There were some users who reported about Tiger (initially) not indexing other partitions on the internal drive. Not sure what the cause was.

As for partitioning, you can use Disk Utility to do it, but this will wipe out all the data on your drive. You can opt to use DiskStudio for non-destructive partitioning. However, if you can't decide how large your partitions should be, best not to partition it at all.
