like an idiot i didnt do an online backup of quicken, my email, photos in iphoto, etc. i assumed from reading the guide that if i did the tiger update it would just update the os. maybe that was what was supposed to happen, but i assure you it didnt. i lost all quicken data, hundreds of photos in iphoto, weeks worth of email, etc. make sure you backup everything before upgrading tiger, or do a clean install which is probably better anyway.

I have done a simple upgrade on two machines now with flawless results. What happened during your install? What Mac are you using? Etc.

Ummm... yeah. A backup is a good idea.

But the Tiger update DOES update just the OS. It doesn't touch your Users folder... AT ALL. So I can't say what went wrong, but the upgrade didn't affect the Quicken data, Photos, or email. That directory is not even TOUCHED by the installer. All the work is done in /System and /Library.

Are you sure the PHYSICAL files are actually missing, or just the references to them?
