Are you sure your not looking at the virtual memory? In Activity Monitor it shows Safari using 20 some MB of Real Memory and 129MB in virtual memory.

I have 6 Safari windows open each with a different web site loaded. For 30 minutes now the memory used it saying around 55MB. If yours keeps going up reinstall Tiger. No way it should jump over 100MB with 3 pages/tabs. Just curious? When you installed Tiger did you do a clean or upgrade install?

hmm, it could be. Anyway to connect with just a regular ethernet cable from your router assuming you use a router. It would be interesting to see if you do a clean install again (to get rid of the dlink driver) and use ethernet and see what activity viewer reports then.

If there is java, flash, or an animated gif on a page you visit, any of those plugins could have a memory issue. If it always happens no matter where you surf, make sure your home page doesn't have any odd technologies applied to it which get loaded every time you run a browser. The fact that we don't all have the same leak implies that it is something unique to your environment so you'll get little joy from apple unless you can narrow down the causes a bit.

Oh, I don't know - My system was installed clean, and i've only installed things like iLife, Adium - no weird system hacks or extra drivers. Safari is currently using 130mb of memory, and over 300 in virtual memory! I have a blank home page, and the memory usage doesn't drop that much if i close the Safari window. I only have one tab open as well.

hasn't safari always done this? Mine is up to 350MB's real and 600MB's virtual right now. Kind of annoying, but I just restart it every once in a while.

Reinstall Tiger? How the hell is that going to fix a memory leak, if there is one?

It's not like the application would be broken by a bad install.

How much RAM does the original poster have, anyway? In general, the more you have, the more aggressively the OS will cache things. It makes the browser faster. How much unused RAM is there in Activity Monitor? All these things are relevant.

Well you never know. The guy having problems accessing his bank with Safari reinstalled Tiger and said after the reinstall it worked. If there was a memory leak I think I would see it too. I have safari open all day and it stays around 50-70MB of real memory being used.

Yeah I get that as well.

It has nothing to so with the way you installed it. This is the first version of a new Safari. There are bugs and they will be fixed. Im sure there is a memory leak in Safari.
