I swear to god every single program in the world must think it's important enough to be on my services menu. I can't even properly use it because there is so much clutter on it. I tried searching on here for a clear answer and played around on Macupdate and versiontracker but I'm either blind or dumb or maybe it doesn't bother anyone as much as me.

How do i clear all these extras services. I thought, "Hey! They'll be in the services folder" but I was only fooling myself.

Only way I know of is to move your applications out of the Applications folder.

Perhaps you could have two folders at the root of your drive: Applications and Applications (No Services) or something like that.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

=( Thanks, any alternatives would be super. Applications and Applications+ folder isn't exactly how I wouldn't to attack this issue. It can't possibly be the only way.

Or, you can install this PreferencePane Service Manager . This program allow you to disable the service menu or change menu shortcut.

That program looks like it modifies applications...

I still think Apple needs to offer a system preference that gives the user some control over the services menu. It wouldn't take much, just a checkbox to turn on and off the app's services plus a keyboard equivalent modifier. My services menu looks ridiculous with so much crap in it. Pretty unusable the way it is now.

How so? I know that you can specifically remove the services that an app registers by editing its Info.plist file. Is that all it's doing or is there more?

I'm pretty sure that's all it's doing.

Yep, but that Info.plist file is part of the app. Editing it is kind of bad form...

Bad form or not, there is no nicer way to remove a bunch of services a user might not want. While I have no problem editing plists, such is not true of many other users. If it happens to screw up at least it keeps a backup of the original unedited plist and allows you to restore it if needed.
Genius. You know who.
