OK. This seems very un-Mac like.

I drag some folders I want to burn to a DVD-R to the icon for the DVD-R that I placed in the Powerbook. The Finder only placed aliases of those folders in the disk.

How the heck do you burn to a blank disk in Finder in Tiger?

The Help just says to drag whatever you want and then click burn.

That's exactly what you do. You just drag in what you want burned, it'll put aliases in, you can check the size (depending on if you're using a CD or DVD), then once you have what you want in there, just click the burn button in that folder.

At least it works now, I can use almost all the available space finally. LOL

Really? Does Finder finally see more than 660.7MB available space on a 700MB CD-R now as well?

It always seems to say "Recordable CD" even if you use a DVD. In the early builds that burn bar was yellow and I kind of wish they kept it like that.

Interesting, so it uses aliases now in order to not duplicate all your data (and force you to have 4+ GB available just to burn data you already have)? 'Bout time. An alias causes this type of response, though. Seems there should be some middle ground to getting it done (looks like you really put them there, but doesn't copy the data, and removing the original wouldn't hurt it, ala hard links).

You can also copy things instead of doing an alias. This can come in handy if you save the burn as a burn folder and want one file, say text file with instructions, to stay the same while you want the other content to be linked to the originals that you might be changing.

When you burn it, the actual data will be burnt. But this way, data doesn't have to be copied (which takes time, especially when you're burning dvds ).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Not only do you get the full 700MB, Apple even threw in an extra 2.8 MB to say they're sorry. It shows a 700MB CDR as 702.8.
