The developer of SuperDuper! is warning of a major bug in Tiger that he has reproduced.
Major Tiger Bug (in Tiger itself) - be aware!
We've just reproduced a bug in Tiger's image handling that any SuperDuper! users should be aware of.
Basically, if you create a sparse image in Tiger and back up to it, everything is fine. You can unmount it, and the file size is as you'd expect.
If, however, the image is larger than about 1GB and you try to mount it, Tiger will destroy it, and set its size to 1008MB.
I cannot recommend that you rely on any application, including SuperDuper!, that uses images until this Tiger bug is fixed.
Please, be careful -- and tell others to be careful too!

A sparse image is an image with a logical size of what you set it to, but the actual size of the file is only that which is taken up by the data on the image. For example, you create a 5 GB sparse image and then copy 500 MB of data to it. The disk image file will take up 500 MB (plus volume overhead) only.
If you create a regular image that is 5 GB in size, the disk image file will take up 5 GB, regardless of whether you have 50 K of data on the image or 3 GB.
The disk images VPC produces are sparse images.

Major Tiger Bug (in Tiger 10.4.0) - be aware!
We've just reproduced a bug in Tiger's image handling that all SuperDuper! users should be aware of.
Basically, if you create a sparse image in Tiger and back up to it, everything is fine. You can unmount it, and the file size is as you'd expect.
If, however, the image is significantly larger than 1GB and you try to mount it, Tiger will destroy it, and set its size to 1008MB.
Apple has fixed this problem in 10.4.1, so be certain you update before relying on any application, including SuperDuper!, that uses images.
Please, be careful -- and tell others to be careful too!
