Had my G5 Dual 1.8 for about 8 months, and never a problem, now immediately after installing the Tiger, as an update, seems whenever i restart, everything stalls and the thing starts a very loud roar, like a streetcleaning machine outside that is sitting there, and not moving down the street.

This what I thought it was, on the other side of the space we live in, 3400 sq ft loft... so, believe me when i say it is loud. Like a fuzzy machine whir, so to speak... which i am assuming it is the fan running on very high speed.

Anyone else have this??? What to do, call Apple, I suppose?

thanks

If your machine is locking up on restart, the fans kick into high because the temperature management that's part of the OS didn't load. When the fans run full speed it makes a hell of a racket. It sounds like your installation went wrong. If you can (meaning if you have your data backed up), reinstall using the "Erase and install" option. At minimum, try to get it to restart from the Tiger install DVD and do an "archive and install." Holding down the mouse when you restart should get the optical drive tray to open for you.
