I am just wondering if there is any new information on the rumored upcoming OpenGL/OSX improvements that Apple/ATI/NVidia are working on. I have a Dual G5 with a Radeon 9600 and 10.4. I have never been disappointed with it's performance, but I recently bought a medium powered Dell laptop with a 1.6 Ghz Pentium M and a Radeon X300 (which as far I as know is a Radeon 9550 with a pci-e connection) and sadly the Dell destroys the G5 in 3D performance. My primary use for the G5 is Maya, and a major OpenGL improvement would be a very welcome enhancement.

I don't think is a trolly post. Mac OS X's weak Open GL support has been widely acknowledged, particularly during Doom 3 discussion. That said, there are supposedly a dozen developer-strong Apple OpenGL team, focused on delivering world class Open GL 2.0 (which I believe is still 1.5 in Tiger) implementation.

The big problem that the hardware vendors faced was the release of Tiger. They've had to spend months and months fixing Tiger-related OpenGL bugs, leaving little time for things like Doom3-specific optimizations.
I think you'll see some good improvements in the not too distant future.

I sold my dual G5/2GHz and got a mac Mini soley to move my 3d production to PC. I use Cinema 4d and am learning Maya.
I like OS X and still want it around, but Open GL lags and there are no workstation level cards available regardless.
Not every mac criticism is a "troll" post, sometimes, it's actual criticism. Believe.

Thanks for the responces...Does anyone know what OpenGL 2.0 will add...will only certain cards be supported? OS X is amazing and I just want to see it get better.
