So I installed Java 1.5 and now Acquisition doesn't work. I paid for the software and the developer didn't reply to my support email, merely posted something on his site: "Do not install Java 1.5 if you want Acquisition to work" - thanks very much for your help. I know Java 1.4 is still on my machine, so can't understand why acquisition can't just use that.

Anyway - do I need to uninstall Java 1.5? Can I uninstall Java 1.5? How do I uninstall Java 1.5!?

I am pretty sure you can use DesInstaller to uninstall it.
But I dont know if you really need to or not...

Thanks - I just did the following and it seems to be ok

cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
mv 1.5.0 1.5.0_unused

Seems a shame I had to do that though, in java programs I thought there was a line which specified which java version to use.. Is this true? Perhaps Acquisition simply says "use latest".
It certainly doesn't "use current" because the currentJDK is soft linked to 1.4.2

Usually, Applications can specify which Java VM they want to use. Open the info.plist file of Acquisition and look for a key called "JVMVersion". Probably it's set to "1.4+" or something. That means the application wants to use Java 1.4 or newer - if you have 1.5 installed, it will use that.
If you change it to "1.4*", it will use the latest version of 1.4, but not 1.5 or later.

I don't have Acquisition, so I cannot check if the problem can really be resolved that way.

I already had a poke around in that file, unfortunately there is nothing in there which specifies the java version. oh well.
