I did a search here and on google didn't find much useful informtation. As there's no other platform pissing contest forum like there is in some gaming sites, this is the only category I thought really made sense to post the question (mods, if you disagree-feel free to move me).

Anyways, with the introduction of fine-grained kernel locking in Tiger, where does that put OS X in relation to other operating systems. I think there was a grand total of like two locks in Panther, leading to pretty severe troubles. What was the number upped to? Obviously, locking is going to be fairly similar among the various UNIX flavors (at least to my uninformed mind). How does XP differ in its solution to the issue?
Any legitimate experts want to satiate my curiosity?

Thanks!
