I keep a CLONED backup and since Carbon Cloner is unavailable.. I wanted to copy the Spotlight database as well as other changed items.

I would advise against doing that. The Spotlight information is automatically managed by the system. Don't mess with that.

Indeed. It would be like backing up the Desktop file in OS 9. Why? The system creates this automatically.

But if you have to know where it is, it's here:

/.Spotlight-V100

Thanks, The reason is I keep an external 20GB firewire for emergency and backup. If I boot from it, some files are not indexed!

It doesn't take all that long for it to reindex.

You'll be okay without moving that index file.

Anyway it's the /.Spotlight-V100 directory.
But I agree with the others, don't bother.
