I was running Panther on this dual G5 2.5 with /Users set as a symlink to:

/Volumes/Second HD/Users

without incident. I did the Tiger update and it ignored that and created a new /Users directory in the disk root and so my home dir is now new, bare, etc. The old home dir, on the other disk, is still there, but I am concerned about deleting /Users and re-creating the symlink to the old home dir as any new Tiger-specific things placed in ~/Library, etc. will be lost.

Should I just move in my old Photos and Documents and Music directories, etc. into the new home dir, ignoring things like the Library directory, etc. and then move that off to the 2nd drive, effectively replacing the old home dir, and symlink off to it?? Let my old apps re-create their prefs settings, etc?

Frustrating. Would it be bad just to point to the old home dir? Would tiger-specific items be lost causing trauma? Thanks.

Most of the stuff in the home library is automatically generated, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
