Is there software that can decode the encryption on a song I bought from iTunes? Last week I was introduced to a wonderful little DVD decoder (MacTheRipper) and I was wondering if there was something like that for the tunes I bought.

There was a command-line utility floating around for a while, but Apple served 'em the cease and desist, for obvious reasons. It was called Fairplay, I think, but it didn't work very well.

Burn it to cd, then rip it back. Then you have a backup and a DRM free copy.

Hymn removes the AAC encryption.

Personally, I won't buy music that lets music industry lawyers control my computer. I can get a better selection and service from Allofmp3.com.

What stuffedmonkey said. It works, and there's nothing illicit about it.
