Kernel Task and Java using more VM in Tiger

I checked Activity Monitor and those two processes are now taking a lot more VM in Tiger than they did in Panther. Kernel task is 1.9Gb in my Tiger machine vs. 1.1Gb in Panther, and Java is 1Gb vs. 780Mb.

Is this something I should worry about?

Unless you have insufficient free disk space, there is little cause to care about that.
