Is there any way for safari to not open PDFs directly into a safari page? I can't seem to get them to zoom in on the PDF so I can actually read it, thus I would prefer if it opened seperately in adobe acrobat or if it just downloaded to the desktop like the old way and I opened it in acrobat myself.

I made the switch from the built-in Safari PDF viewer back to Adobe's by tweaking the following preference option with Adobe Reader's preferences...
Adobe Reader > Preferences > Internet > Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Reader

Quit Safari
Open Terminal
type this: defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
Then it should just download the PDF like it used to.
To turn it back on type this: defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool NO

To zoom in on a PDF in Safari, you can right-click (ctrl-click) and in the pop-up menu there'll be some added options. I'd use that before I'd reinstall the Acrobat Reader.

Thanks for the zoom tip. I do prefer the quickness of the built in view versus Acrobat Reader in Safari.

The main problem with Acrobat's viewer is that is hangs Safari totally until the PDF has finished loading. Though it's slow too. I wish Safari's built-in viewer had a toolbar though (zooming through right clicking is slow).

Zooming is implemented in the nightlies of Safari (patch by a friend of mine, actually).

There is a wonderful thing called PDF Browser Plugin ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16527) that is free for personal use and gives a range of functionality, including zoom, making any PDF readable in the browser without having to download it. I realise this was not what the original question asked, but this seems to resolve the problem cited. Version 2.2 runs perfectly in Safari 1.3, I've not tried it with 2.0.
