My icons keep disappearing in two different installs of Tiger on two differnet machines. Pages, iLife 05, FCE-HD. Any idea why?

What do you mean by your icons are disappearing? Do you mean that you can't find your apps? Or that they're getting generic icons? Or what?

They're getting generic Application icons.

My Finder won't draw thumbnails for my photos & documents, be it as an icon or in the preview pane of column view. Not sure if they were there and disappeared, or if they've been missing since the install.

If you've got generic icons, I'd try deleting the LaunchServices caches. Go to /Library/Caches, find any files whose names start with com.apple.LaunchServices and delete them, and reboot. See if this fixes your problem.

After running Tiger for a few days, my icons all started getting screwed up. I suspect the icon cache was damaged. I logged out and back in (which fixed the problem) and filed a bug report with Apple.

Thanks for the tip. That cleared up my generic icon issues.

My custom icons on folders and files also disappear on a regular basis. Mainly the ones that I place in the Dock. This is since upgrading to Tiger.

I've trashed those caches, restarted and logged out, and my Finder still won't draw previews or thumbnails for images. I can grab an image out of Safari and drag it to the desktop right now and all I get is a generic white document icon. It sucks tremendously.
UPDATE: I trashed the entire contents of the Library/caches folder and restarted. Not only has the Finder's willingness to draw icons and previews returned, but it fixed my other problem where I wasn't able to drag documents onto icons in the dock. Woohoo!
