Is there such a thing for Mac OS? I know it can be done on Windoze (NTFS) and Linux. This is not zipping files, but a transparent compressor that compresses/uncompresses files are they are accessed.

I think it's been nearly a decade since this type of software was popular. Hard drive capacity exploded and the the market for it evaporated. I don't even think it is done on Windows any more, since XP came onto the scene.

It's part of the NTFS file system and still done on XP. It's on the same tab as encryption. I guess I'll just install a bigger hard drive in my iBook.

I'd say get a bigger HD... I can't imagine Apple coming out with something like this... it'd probably just make OS X feel more laggy.
