whenever i call up dashboard i usually have to wait about 5 - 10 seconds for the widgets to update.

for example the weather, clock, nhl countdown, and other web widgets take several seconds to load the info.

to me it seems kinda slow and defeats the purpose of a quick app.

my specs are:
1.67 pb
1gb ram
3mbps internet speed - in case you think thats causing the delays...

is it just me, or do you have this problem as well? please let me know. thanks!

yep. i think it may happen to widget that need to call the internets - like the weather or world clock.

but the calc takes a while too but don't know if its waiting for the world clock.

yup. calc takes long too... and thats not internet based. in the dictionary, i cannot type for a few seconds either. Tiger is missing the snappiness of Panther. the should have called it osx 10.4 sloth.

i disagree completey.

the only thing slow is dashboard everthing else for me is rockin so far.

faster than 10.3 and it made my new PB 1.67 as fast for most things (non super cpu intensive) as my old dual g5 2.0.

if its slow for you i suggest a backup->erase drive-> install 10.4 (no archive install . no migration transfer) etc.. and start from scratch installing everything....

much faster

osxisfun... i did what you said. its not that bad actually. its just not as fast i felt tiger was. maybe cause automater runs slowly. spotlight is a bit slow. and then theres dashboard....

is spotlight fast for you on your 1.67? and automater? if so i need to fix something. do you "repair permissions" in os 10.4? i heard its not stable / safe to do so.

I thought the dashboard was always running in the background, but my dash takes in the upwards of 30 seconds to load the clock and the weather, and then for me to be able to click on and use any of the widgets. My internet is always on so it can't be taking a momment to connect. I have a G5 imac with only 256mbs of ram, but I am getting 1 gig in the mail soon. I hope the speeds the dashboard up. I do like the dashboard, but I would be more inclined to use it if it was zippier.

30 seconds? That's kind of crazy. It takes about four seconds for me. Are you on a decent connection (since those are both Internet-dependent widgets)?

spotlight seems about as fast i would expect it. you are right about automater it could use a minor speed bump...

this is really strange. i have 1.5gig of ram? and hardly any widgets (alive on dashboard)

i never did the repair permissions. did not think i needed to too?

Does it take a long time every time you bring up Dashboard — i.e., if you bring it up once and then quickly again, does it go faster?

I'd like to have the possibility to send an activation event *in the background* to all widgets everytime I login, without calling Dashboard forward. I would hope that it would take care of the pause until the widgets get what they want from the internet the first time they are invoked, or in my case, until they decide that I don't have Internet and can acess the dictionary, calculator, notepad and address book, that don't need internet but are still blocked until the others very well decide to let me get back to work.

Maybe sending a command to Dock.app? Modifying a .plist?
