Two possibilites:

->Either I am the most ignorant mac user on earth

->or Apple's automator lacks the option to create an app that perfom tasks on multiple applications

I was creating an application that would perform iPhoto and DVD player tasks with a click of button and it didn't work..

First I dragged an iPhoto action that imports an album...

Then I dragged another iPhoto action that plays the slide show using that album...

Finally I chose a DVD player action to play a DVD...

I made sure that the last action ignored the results from the previous action..

When I tested my app the automator played the slide show but not the DVD and it mentioned that the execution failed without giving a clear reason..

I want to comment on Automator and Dashboard:

It's a very smart app and we're used to such amazing apps (we're mac users ).
However the actions aren't enough...I mean there is no quit action for iPhoto!!!!!!
I was trying to build an app that plays a certain slide show then it quits iPhoto then it starts
dvd player and plays a dvd.Unfortunately, I had problems.

I believe that Apple should name the version beta rather than 1.0 because this app is very slow and i mean it...my machine is a brand new iBook but this app is very slow.

dashboard can be improved by allowing the user to customize or choose its sources. For instance, stock displays the american stocks...I was trying to dig and find a way to customize stock to make it display the stocks of the Saudi Arabian market.

I believe that it would be great if Apple gave the user a feature or an option to enable him to guide dashboard and tell it where to go to fetch info...Another example is my attempt to search for flights from Riyadh to Amsterdam and flight didn't display any results. However, I was amazed when flight displayed info about domestic flights in Saudi Arabia, but I couldn't understand the reason that made it fail to display KLM flights from Riyadh to Amsterdam.

I need some help in:

1) completing the automator app

2)customizing dashboard to fetch info from my chosen sources.

Sorry

I didn't intend to criticize Apple's Automator and Dashboard!

Is that what you want to read?!!!

No ****ing response from you?!

fine...

The problem with mac users is that they believe that macs are perfect.

I am a mac user, but that doesn't mean I can't comment on Apple's apps.

It seems that you don't want to offer help.

Fine macnn members I don't need you...

Kabeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh?

I don't need you.

I just knew what widgets are. Unfotunately Saudis Didn't create widgets for the Saudi Stock Market. I will have to make my own widgets.

Thank you very much for the help Macnn!

= your (PurpleGiant) IQ score is below the required score to understand me.

Many of your members post the dum<b>est questions ever and you respond, but when I post you don't. I didn't know what widgets were. I was searching in Dashboard's prefrences.

Didn't you stop to think that maybe nobody knew the answer to your question? What d'you want, sympathy?
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

almar008,

the reason no one responded within your 21-hour-deadline is probably that you haven't tried to solve the issue yourself and thus isolate the problem. No one's going to set up your exact automator task and spend the next two hours solving the problem for you.

What you should do is track the problem down yourself, and when you can't get any further: post here.

For instance, have you tried separating the DVD part from the iTunes part of the workflow? In that case, what happened? Would the workflows run "an sich"?
Soon enough, your post would boil down to something like "Has anyone gotten DVD blah blah to blah in automator?", which probably would yield more responses.

Unfortunately, you're 10 years ahead of your time. The technology exists (XML/SOAP/web services) though a minority of public internet services provide their resources as web services.

For now, you'll have to duplicate the widget and alter the source code of the copy to fit your needs.

I would vote for your being ignorant. No quit function in iPhoto? WTF?

You post some questions, not thinking that it was only 1 day for most people on this site as you are in the ME. Then you start spouting crap and ranting, much like you did in your other thread which was locked since you basically there to troll. The headline for the thread didn't help much either.

To have automator work on two different apps in sequence is going to take a little work, which you no longer seem willing to do. Same with customising widgets.

Perhaps, if you approached this with a different type of tone, try to work through the problems yourself (maybe even search a little) and be patient, perhaps you'd get a little more help and sound a little less like an assclown.

Betcha get more help now.

As far the widgets go, send Apple feedback first and foremost. There's some widget-dedicated sites which might be able to help you with personalising what you need.
As far the Automator issue. Did you try making the workflow a Finder-based one? That might enough if it knows the path to iPhoto (which does have a Quit option) and iDVD.
If not, you may just have to break it up into two different workflows.

That said, people on the site can be quite helpful. There's some banter and often people disagree, often quite strongly. For some of the things you asked, people might not know the answers as it's been less than a month since Tiger was released.
Good luck.
