Hello, I am trying to install OSX Tiger, but whenever I try to install it, it says:

BaseSystem cannot be installed on this computer

Can anyone help me?

What Mac do you have? Which OS does it have on it at the moment? Are you trying to upgrade the OS, or erase + install?

Sorry, but people won't be able to help you without providing a bit more information.

I have Panther at the moment. It's an iBook, and I am trying to upgrade the OS.

Which iBook? How much RAM do you have? How much free hard drive space do you have? Does the machine meet the minimum system requirements?

I have iMac Power PC G4, 700 Mhz, 128 MB RAM, CDRW and OS X 10.3 (Panther) running.

It boots up successfully from CD1 but after few minutes of acticity it just hangs up and only blue screen appears, there is no mouse pointer and nothing else, I waited for long time.

Someone suggested to upgrade firmware. I tried searching firmware upgrade on apple site, but didn't find any for my machine.

I also tried the trick by directly running file "OSInstall.mpkg" in "System\Installation\Packages" in CD1, it starts setup but after few seconds it gives the error "BaseSystem cannot be installed on this computer." "This software cannot be installed on this computer"

I have 128MB. Can this be the problem? Because it requires 256MB as in docs. I can't spend on RAM anymore, is there any solution to this.

Please help me to get out of this problem.

I am very thankful to u.

Not to be rude, but you really should start a new thread instead of hijacking one that is nearly a year old.

And even 256MB of RAM really isn't enough to run Panther. RAM isn't expensive--You could buy 1GB for that machine for what Tiger costs.
