I want to set up aliases in bash, but for the life of me can't remember where OSX lets me do that. Using csh, it was easy to create a .cshrc in my /home directory, but bash is a different beast -- yet playing around with /etc/bashrc and /etc/profile doesn't seem to be helping much.

Any help/guidance appreciated!

you can create a .bashrc the same way. you also need a .bash_profile in your home directory with this inside:
source .bashrc

then just create a .bashrc file in your home directory with whatever you want in it.

Got it! Many thanks!!!!

I kept thinking I had to edit /etc/profile or something....I think I did that under 10.3 for some reason. *shrugs* Oh, well....it works now! Thanks again!

When ~/.profile exists, ~/.bashrc is ignored. FYI.

that's not necessarily true. Generally login shells read .profile( and others) non-login shells read .bashrc. but not ALWAYS.

I take it back. I think that must have been because I didn't have a .bash_profile as described earlier in the thread.
