i normally don't post things like this, but I'm so completely blown away by the speed of Safari after updating Tiger to 10.4.1 that I just had to find out if anyone else experienced the same thing, and/or if anyone knows why this might be happening? (btw, I did all of the tweaking i could on previous iterations, i.e. favicon directory being locked, etc.)

I concur. My iBook has never been smoother or faster in Safari let alone every other app. 10.4.1 went flawlessly as usual

It's definitely fast. However, it slows down significantly when you have a lot of windows or tabs open. A lot better than 1.x was in this area though. I have 2gb of memory in my dual G5 and notice it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really notice these big speed boosts you guys seem to be experiencing. A shame, I reckon.
