Hi guys,
We just learnt that Invitrogen won't upgrade their DNA software suit to run on Tiger. My lab will be screwed up big time. I wrote a complain letter to Invitrogen. If you have any ideas that would support my case, they will be very welcomed.
Thanks,
Dear Invitrogen representative,
This email was writing as a response to the letter sent by Invitrogen attached bellow.
We are seriously considering changing the DNA software suit in our computer labs and servers due to Invitrogen announcement to stop updates for the recently released OS X tiger. Our lab made an important investment purchasing NTI software in part due to its interplatform ability (PC and Mac). Some of our senior scientist develop their genomic software tools using OS X developer tools and they have not found any inconvenience porting their software from Panther (10.3) to Tiger (10.4), most of the other software used in these systems (from Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Office, X11 environment and so on) works just fine in both, Tiger or Panther. If not, the software manufacturers have provided software updates free and in advance!
We also moved to Invitrogen Vector NTI suit (from Mac Vector and DNAStar) because our team thought Invitrogen to be a serious company that would not quit support to the customer that invest in Invitrogen technology. Indeed, we made a huge investment this year purchasing new dual G5 systems to run NTI software, our genomic databases and other demanding software.
Apparently, Invitrogen is considering quitting OS X support based in difficulties porting NTI to Tiger. However, we know (based on ours and others experiences) that such scenario is not that dramatic at all. Updating from 10.3 to 10.4 is not much more difficult than it was to move from 10.2 to 10.3. The developer tools provided by Apple help make that move easy.
We encourage you to reconsider your decision, our scientists have made it clear, they won’t give up OS X. So, we'll have to give up Invitrogen Vector NTI. We know other labs using Vector NTI to be "puzzled" (I'm generous now) by Invitrogen absurd decision.
Sincerely,

Their letter
Dear Invitrogen Bioinformatics Customer,
Thank you for using Vector NTI® Suite for Mac OS X. As part of our commitment to providing you with high-quality products and services, we are emailing you this update.
We regret to inform you that Vector NTI® Suite 7.1 will not be supported on the upcoming Tiger (Apple OS X v10.4) operating system coming out from Apple Computer Inc. The new changes in the operating system are incompatible with Vector NTI® operations. The Tiger OS is currently scheduled for release April 29, 2005. If you choose to upgrade to Tiger, your copy of Vector NTI® Suite 7.1 will not operate. Since Tiger is an unsupported platform, we regret that we cannot respond to Technical Support questions about this OS.
