Spotlight isn't finding anything in /Library/Printers or ~/Library/Printers, including those Printers folders themselves. Anyone know why that is?
Plus, whenever I try to open my Lexmark Z25-Z35 Utility, it immediately unexpectedly quits. Anyone know how I fix this?
(Despite this, my printer still prints when I ask it do.)
Thanks a lot.

Am I asking this in the wrong forum or what?
Do I have to repair permissions? Re-install some printer software? I haven't tried anything yet because I don't want to make things worse by guessing. Thanks.

Spotlight isn't supposed to search in /Library/Printers. Hence, no results.
Almost nobody here uses Lexmark printers, but are you sure you installed the latest drivers?

Why not? It seems the other folders in /Library and ~/Library are found by Spotlight, so what makes /Library/Printers and ~/Library/Printers so special? Are there any other folders or files that Spotlight intentionally won't find?

I agree Lexmark sucks, but my Utility did still open under Panther. Is there something new I need now that I'm in Tiger? (Keep in mind my actual printer is still printing normally.)
Thanks again for everyone's help.

Clearly, no one has a direct answer to any of your questions. Why not tell us what you have tried and what you are missing. So what if the utility doesn't open... it still prints. Have you tried INSTALLING THE LATEST DRIVERS?

Thank you for responding.

According to http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-per...amp;fileID=505, I have the latest driver.
Everything appears normal in System Prefs-->Print & Fax and Printer Setup Utility.

I care very much if the Utility doesn't open so that I may clean nozzles, check ink, print test pages, etc. Even if I don't use it that much, the fact that it doesn't open indicates that SOMETHING is wrong.

I have no idea what to try. That's why I'm asking this forum. Because the printer still prints, I'm assuming it is still compatable with Tiger. The problem seems to be with the Utility. Every time I try to open it, a box appears and says:
"The application Lexmark Z25-Z35 Utility quit unexpectedly after it was reopened. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Try Again to temporarily restore the application's default settings and open it again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
I have sent a Report to Apple, but was wondering if anyone here could help me, as well. Thanks again for anyone's feedback.

I found that I had this issue because I have my printer connected directly to my airport express. When I hook my printer directly to my computer, the utility will work. I have an Epson. Maybe it will be the same for yours.

While I do accept this as a valid reason to worry, if your printer is currently printing fine, then I would make sure that Lexmark knows about the problem, and then keep using the printer as is until there is an update. As far as the amount of ink you have... it's a good idea to have a spare cartridge on hand anyway. If your nozzles are plugged up, you can do a manual purging of the printheads. You don't need the utility to print test pages. Just print a one page web page.
You can also point your web browser at http://localhost:631 to print a really spiffy test page.

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately, my printer is already connected via USB. I guess this is just a Lexmark issue with Tiger that they have yet to address (since their website still treats Panther as a brand new operating system).
I've read Butler's application description, but I'm not quite clear on how that might solve the problem.

Figured I'd let everyone know that running Cocktail (repairing permissions) and restarting the computer with the printer disconnected did not make this problem go away...So I'm still searching for a solution to make my Lexmark Z25-Z35 Utility open. Thanks.

Another update to my problem:
Lexmark finally updated their website: http://www.lexmark.com/US/products/i.../mac_home.html. Apparently my printer stopped being compatable with Mac once OS X 10.3.8 came out. This is weird because my Utility still opened even under 10.3.9!!
Also, as I explained before, my printer is still printing in 10.4.1!! Apparently compatability only affects the Utility's ability to open, not the printer's ability to print???? That's odd.

Found an interesting way to get around this compatability issue...ran the Utility in Classic and that works.
But I'd still like to know why my printer is still printing from OS X if it is no longer considered compatable. Does compatability only apply to the Utility?

You'll have to ask Lexmark why they are unable to write a utility that will run under Tiger.
Actually, that's one of about fifty good questions you could ask them.
Be happy that your printer works, and write a polite e-mail to those idiots at Lexmark.

I have the same problem that you have with Lexmark z25 printer utility closing. If you find an answer I would appreciate a heads up.

My previous two posts in this thread provide a reason for the crap-out and a work-around.

Back when I had my piece of crap Z23 (or Z32 or something like that, it came free with my iBook) there was a thing with the drivers where if you didn't select the right print cartridges the first time the Utility launched, you couldn't print to the printer. No idea whether that's still relevant, but that's what I had to do.
