Hi,
after upgrading to tiger, i no longer get the red number for my inbox in the dock icon. The audible alert sounds when i receive new mail but that's it.
any suggestions on how to get it back?
thanks,
jeff

The red badge only works when e-mail lands in your inbox instead of the mailboxes that you specified in your rules.

AM...
thanks for your response... sort of...
I searched this forum plently before posting this question. Mailenhancer is not tiger compatible and i just want the red badge to function as it should

As you can read at the link I supplied, it is compatible. Just follow the instructions. Works fine here!

yo Appleman...
again, thanks for the help..
however, i want the dock icon to behave as it should without a 3rd party fix... anyway, i'll be in soho later today so i'll stop by the genius bar to see if they can figure it out...
i'll reply back if they have a solution in case anybody else is experiencing this.

Of course it's curious why you don't have the standard behaviour of Mail.
Hope the Genius is genius!

so, i took my pb to soho yesterday and let the geniuses have a look at it... Genius #1 has never seen this happen and didn't really have a clue as to what may be causing it... He created a new account for testing and the red badge appeared in the dock with this new user account... This showed us that Mail.app on my system was ok and the problem had to do with my preference settings right? wrong...
after trying many different variations of my preferences, he still couldn't get it to work properly... He also tried rebuilding my mailboxes and resetting my dock... no go...
after asking most of the other geniuses at the store for solution, there was still no answer... This caught the attention of the head genius and he was baffled as well... (this is the guy who could probably build a mac from the ground up while on a deserted island using only a finely crafted rock as his tool).. he tried deleting my entire preference library as well as multiple other files that may be related to mail and the dock... nothing...
in the end, i backed up what i needed from my current user account (luckily, since i had recently done a clean install of tiger, i didn't have too much stuff on my pb's hard drive at the time. most of my files were already on dvds or an external drive at home) and created a new administrator account and erased my old account... it was somewhat annoying because i now had to reset all of my system prefs as well as all of my applications which i had just finished doing with the clean install... (my preferences were deleted without being backed up)...
so yeah, everything is back to normal and functioning as it should... however, the mystery remains...
and all of this for the tiny little red badge of courage in mail's dock icon

hm, not that genius after all...
if I am right I remember Steve told us at the introduction of the Apple Stores that the genius had access to a direct line with Cupertino, IF they couldn't solve certain poblems, but maybe that's only what appeared in my mind, years later...
I once was in LA and had a certain problem with indexing of a harddrive in my PB and they couldn't solve it either. The only answer was more or less a Windows-one: re-install

I have the same problem in my Dual 2.0 at work. Tried everything but creating a new account to no avail. I'll wait and see if Tiger fixes it.
